Timeline

1922

Phil's Shoes is founded in Salisbury, NC.

1930s - 1950s

Mort Lerner, Phil's son-in-law, who owns Lerner Shoes, merges with Phil's Shoes, providing great styles, brands and prices for the entire family.

1960s - 1980s

Lerner Shoes opens Rack Room Shoes locations and grows to nearly 100 stores.

The Deichmann Group, Europe's largest shoe retailer, acquires Rack Room Shoes, which began an era of accelerated growth, primarily in the Southeast region of the United States.

1990s - 2000s

Rack Room Shoes moves its corporate headquarters to Charlotte, NC and opens its 200th store.

Off Broadway Shoe Warehouse is purchased by Rack Room Shoes, growing the chain to more than 300 stores.

2010s - 2020s

Rack Room Shoes launches Rack Room Shoes Gives, The Athletic Shop, Store-to-Door services, our e-commerce site and one of the first totally cardless Rewards programs, as well as In-Store Pickup.

2022: 100 Year Anniversary

From humble roots to exponential growth of more than 520 locations across the U.S., Rack Room Shoes remains committed to serving our communities through strong charitable initiatives and delivering a consistent customer experience - moving us 100 years forward.
